Each year, SMC surveys members to determine top concerns. SMC’s federal and state legislative agendas are built from the ground up. For 2016, our top state priority was pension reform and our top federal priority was improvements to the Affordable Care Act. In 2017, SMC will address state pension reform, minimum wage, and more improvements to the Affordable Care Act.
Real change comes from creating opportunities for members to speak with lawmakers, educating lawmakers on issues that matter to small business, and keeping members up-to-date on issues and government. SMC members and staff travel to Harrisburg each year to meet with lawmakers and discuss top issues. The Harrisburg trip, intensive lobbying by SMC, and member talks are all part of SMC’s efforts to make sure you are part of the conversation.
Members can also begin affecting real change and stay current on government issues through www.paprosperity.com, a website that enables small employers and employees to easily send advocacy letters to their lawmakers. This website is made possible through a partnership with the Pennsylvania Manufacturers Association and the Business-Industry Political Action Committee and contains a wealth of information.
